Stop sending your users away empty-handed.

A monochrome cartoon illustration depicting a sad figure sitting on the ground with a tear falling from its eye. The figure looks distressed, holding its head with one hand. Behind the figure, there are two downward-trending graphs, one on each side, indicating a decline. Additionally, there are bar charts on either side of the figure, also showing a downward trend.

Most UX Writing advice sucks.

And it’s nobody’s fault.

When everyone talks about something, clichés will take over.

You’ve probably heard these pearls of wisdom:

“Write clear and concise copy”
“Watch your voice and tone”
“Know your audience”

Even though they are timeless, they are old news 🤷‍♂️

The thing is, these rules apply not only to UX writing but also to every piece of copy. If you’re looking for advice on designing your content, you probably want to know why your product stinks. You want to know what to do next.

And for that, they are of no help.

So, here are 4 tips I’ve used in the past with real-world examples:

1. Use Progressive Disclosure (more on that later)

2. Address Accessibility Issues (It’s very tricky, isn’t it?)

3. Leverage Emotional Triggers (triggered enough? great)
